ORR reappoints Steer to develop their annual Estimates of Station Usage report

After over a decade of working with the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) we have once again been commissioned to produce the dataset that underpins their annual Estimates of Station Usage publication. This important data set highlights the most and least used stations in Great Britain, from busy urban transit centres like London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly to the rural outpost of Elton and Orston, which last year recorded only 40 entrants and exits.

Our vital work with ORR has seen statistics produced through challenging times for GB’s rail network during and after the pandemic. Over the decade of producing the large dataset, we have evolved and refined the analysis behind it to better reflect the complexity of usage at many of Britain’s railway stations. Owned by the ORR, the metrics are recognised as Official Statistics by Britain’s Office for National Statistics giving them a pedigree of accuracy and authority.

“We are extremely pleased to announce that the Office of Rail & Road (ORR) has reappointed us to produce the dataset for their annual Estimates of Station Usage publication,” says Adam Stevens, Principal Consultant and project manager.

“This is a stimulating and interesting project, with the outputs being utilised and relied on by many parties within and outside of the rail industry to provide insight to transport demand and community use of Britain’s stations.”
