Energy

The global energy sector continues to face notable change. From the decline of traditional energy sources to the rise of new energy facilities the sector is now characterised by material technical change, significant policy shifts by Governments and new forms or trading and financing.  Consumption patterns are changing as society and its technology evolves to opportunities such as automation, carbon storage and the electric vehicles.

This all means that private companies are seeking to build new energy facilities (nuclear, wind, solar) to meet future needs. These projects face complex policy and legislative requirements concerning environmental effects, including transport impacts.

The sector’s infrastructure represents long-term and capital-intensive investments. Decision-making and execution of strategy, therefore, requires a sound understanding of energy markets and a detailed appreciation of the planning and policy context.

How we can help you

Steer is able to support delivery of energy schemes in a number of ways. From supporting the analysis of energy markets and their regulation to expert mastering of the practical challenges of planning for major energy construction projects and operation of facilities we’re here to help.

In the latter, we have a long history of successfully supporting some of the largest and most complex planning applications and construction projects in the UK. We have particular expertise in assessing construction routes, worker travel patterns and developing mitigation strategies. We can articulate the transport impacts of schemes clearly in reports and face-to-face with stakeholders. More broadly, we are very familiar with the rigours of the public examination process.

This wide experience, coupled with in-depth technical experience, means we can advise clients in making the most cost-effective and efficient decisions for the planning, delivery and operation of large-scale energy facilities.

Our core offer includes:

  • Market analysis
  • Economic regulation
  • Commercial and technical due diligence
  • Transport planning
  • Traffic engineering
